There is an electricity and drive to this film which stays with us. And it deals with what Dance IS. Essentially. Joy. And it transports us with its optimism and imagination.

In der Jurybegründung heißt es:

Ein junger Mann steht in einem leeren Raum und erzählt davon, wie das Essen von Tortilla Chips ihn veränderte, wie er die Chips in den Dip eintauchen ließ und dabei ein neues Körpergefühl entwickelte. Das klingt zunächst etwas weit hergeholt. Doch ist die Geschichte vielleicht ohnehin nur der Aufhänger für diesen kurzen Experimentalfilm, der nicht unwesentlich von der körperbetonten Performance des Hauptdarstellers lebt. Während er von seinem Erlebnis mit den Tortilla Chips erzählt, wird auch sein Körper immer beredter. Zuerst sind es geschmeidige Tanzbewegungen, die schließlich in expressive Ausdrucksweisen übergehen. Als weitere Figur kommt seine Mutter hinzu. Die zunächst statische Kamera und nüchtern gehaltene Bildkomposition kommt schließlich ebenfalls in Bewegung. Der Rhythmus des Films wird schneller, fast exzessiv. Schlüssig eingesetzte Trickeffekte bilden mit der Performance des Darstellers ein reizvolles Amalgam. Ein klein wenig zu lang ist das Ganze vielleicht geraten, aber die liebevolle Gestaltung und die ausdrucksstarken Darsteller lassen nichtsdestotrotz einen sehr gelungenen kleinen Experimentalfilm entstehen.

‘Develop/Movement no. 1’ by David Rodríguez Gimeno won the Encouragement Award. The talented maker receives an amount of €2000.
Both awards – the highest for dance film world wide – are acknowledged and supported by Stichting Dioraphte.

The association‘s ambition is to generally improve public awareness of German short films. In this regard the association functions both at home and abroad as a contact source for political bodies, the film industry, cinema businesses and festivals as well as a service centre for filmmakers, producers and institutes involved in short film.

A major focus of the association‘s activities is the systematic and coordinated presentation of German short film abroad. Since the association became a shareholder of the restructured German Films Service + Marketing GmbH, short film now enjoys a more prominent position in the marketing and promotion of German film abroad. This includes, among others, processing and forwarding enquiries from foreign festivals for special German short film programmes, an information service for festival submissions and deadlines, publicising and recommending current productions to foreign programme curators and maintaining an extensive presence at the most important short film market in Clermont-Ferrand as well as at the International Film Festival Berlin.

Working together with German Films, short films are selected as supporting films for features as well as for the short film programmes of the Festival of German Films screened abroad.

On the domestic level, this lobbying body for short film concentrates on tasks such as coordinating activities to improve the awareness of short films, networking and of course implementing individual projects with federal German or international aspects.

Among the important projects in this regard are the annual publication of the » German Short Films « catalogue with a selection of the 100 most interesting current German short films and an extensive service section on German short film, as well as the shortfilm.de short film portal operated in partnership with the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. This contains international themes and contributions, as well as news, information and dates on the wide-ranging German short film scene.

Next to that, Momentum’s Cast Patrick Hanna has also been nominated for the Best Actor Award in St. Albans.

The Film Festival in March will be opened by the feature film Vinyl, a week ahead of its UK release, directed by Sara Sugarman, and starring Phil Daniels and Keith Allen. Closing the festival will be Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures, directed by Jan Harlan, Kubrick’s brother-in-law and one of Kubrick’s producers, who will also be giving a talk about filmmaking at the festival.
