What if you could hear with light?

The groundbreaking technology of an optogenetic cochlear implant developed under the leadership of the University Medical Center Göttingen — promises a new auditory experience compared to conventional cochlear implants.
What does it feel like to hear music for the first time after years of silence? Or to perceive it with greater clarity and nuance than ever before?

This animated short – made up of approx. 2,500 hand-drawn frames – sets out to translate this human experience into an audiovisual form.
